Dr. Tom’s Music Therapy: Tim McMorris – Overwhelmed

Inspiration can come from anywhere. Sometimes its a quote from a speaker. Other times its from a fortune cookie. This time, it came from a commercial. Yep, you didn’t read that wrong, a commercial.

As I was making my coffee and eggs while watching SportsCenter, as I do every morning (it’s called BREAKfast for a reason) I heard a commercial come on with a tune I had never heard before. Thanks to Directv for DVR and allowing me to rewind and check it out. Below is the commercial from Sam Adams. Yeah….I was inspired by a beer commercial. (Disclaimer: I almost didn’t share the commercial because I didn’t want it to tarnish the beauty of the actual song itself. Proceed with caution).

After hearing this I immediately went up stairs to “youtube” this song (and yes I turned off the stove first. I’m 27 now. A responsible adult). Then, the song hit me.

As you probably know from previous posts I’m a sucker for a well-written, simple love song. Tim McMorrison doesn’t disappoint with Overwhelmed. Guys, we all have ‘that girl’ and whether you’re with her now or you’re still trying to make your way toward each other you know she’s your girl. The words in this song are everything you want to say and probably some things you’ve already said.  I’m done with my ramble; enjoy the song. Let me know what you think!

The correct term for “that girl” is “Great White Buffalo.” Not trying to be douchasaurus rex here, but that’s a pretty important term. Only three words and it ecompasses every layer of emotion behind a man’s longing for true love. Know it. Use it.
