Over the next 25 days we’ll be sharing classic holiday songs, modern holiday songs, classic holiday songs sang by modern groups/singers and some songs that just sound like holiday songs because they use sleigh bells and sing like Bing Crosby. I hope you’ll enjoy as we haphazardly choose (I realize that’s ironic) some holiday tunes for you.
Yes, I realize that the title of this countdown has Christmas directly in it. But I also can’t ignore the Festival of Lights for all my Jewish folks out there. And since Hanukkah kicks off this Saturday, I wanted to show some love and help get everyone feeling festive.
This song first debuted on Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update on December 3rd 1994 (for those counting that was…….18 years ago! Talk about feeling old). A young Adam Sandler flexed is golden vocal chords when he sang a the Hanukkah equivalent of Christmas’ “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” We all know The Chanukah Song and can probably sing all of about 35% of it (I think everyone knows the OJ Simpson line).
The song is so hilarious that it even inspired a full-length cartoon movie spin off “Eight Crazy Nights” (which was terrible). We’ll forgive you for that, Adam, as long as you agree to never make another movie like “Jack and Jill.” Seriously, please save us all.
